Welcome to Morris Angus Farms!
We are a family-owned and operated livestock ranch located outside of Stigler, Oklahoma. Our goal is to provide quality bulls that are capable of providing the most profitable calves to commercial cattlemen. We hope you take the time to learn a little more about us and then visit with us about how we can help meet your livestock needs.
How We Got Here
In 1989, Johnny and Barbara were living in Stonewall, Louisiana with their two sons, Anthony and Joe. While there, Johnny bought calves from local dairy farms to raise and sell at weaning. He also managed to build a small herd of Limousin cattle. In 2001, Johnny retired from Overnight Transportation and moved back to southeastern Oklahoma.
In the spring of 2003, Johnny found our current location while looking for a place to quarry flagstone. Over the next several years, he worked to build Morris Stone Company into a major provider of Oklahoma flagstone throughout the United States. In the summer of 2010, Joe joined the family business. Over the next few years, Johnny and Joe worked to build the cattle business while continuing to operate Morris Stone Company. By 2015, the cattle operation had grown to almost 175 commercial cows and a small herd of registered Limousin cows.
One day while looking at the cows and discussing the future, Johnny and Joe made the decision to transition from a cow-calf operation and begin to focus on being able to raise bulls for local cattlemen.
Why Angus?
Joe says picking a breed of cows is like finding a good pair of boots, if they don’t look right and feel right, then you will never be happy.
Of course, we also recognized that if we were going to raise bulls, not only did we have to be happy looking at our cattle, but you needed to be happy looking at them as well. This led to the decision to add Angus cattle to our operations in late 2015. Over the next few years, we focused on developing our registered Angus herd. By October 2017, we had managed to grow our herd to 50 registered Angus and continue to maintain some of our favorite Limousin cows. In addition, we continue to maintain a 125 head cow-calf operation.
Our Focus
We believe that raising cattle is a two part operation. The first part is the enjoyment from working your cattle, the second is finding a way to make money while you are doing it. With these thoughts in mind, we have worked to develop a herd that we find visually appealing, easy to handle, and able to raise quality calves. With our roots in the cow-calf operations, we understand that it is important to strive to get the most gain on calves prior to weaning. We also understand that many cow-calf operations retain heifers as herd replacements.
Understanding these needs, our attempt is to offer cattle that provide strong maternal features, quality milk production, longevity, and high fertility in heifers. At the same time, we want to maintain the focus on calves that can bring a premium at weaning.
Charlie
We wouldn’t be able to complete our story without acknowledging a key component to our success. Charlie has been with the Morris Family for decades. Charlie oversees the feed program and is critical in helping maintain our pastures and equipment.
